Women's Hoops Drops OVC Road Contest at Tennessee Tech

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. --
Junior guard Jala Harris tallied a game-high 18 points and the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team never trailed in a 68-50 victory over Morehead State on Saturday evening at the Eblen Center.
 
The Golden Eagles improve to 5-11 overall and 1-2 in the Ohio Valley Conference, while the Eagles slip to 5-10 on the campaign and 2-1 in conference action.

Harris knocked down 8-of-16 from the floor for the defending OVC regular-season champions.  She also recorded four rebounds, two assists and two steals in the win.
 
Senior Tacarra Hayes, the OVC’s Preseason Player of the Year, added 17 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and two steals, while sophomore forward Molly Heady contributed 13 points and seven boards for the Golden Eagles.
 
Senior guard Courtney Lumpkin led Morehead State with 15 points.  Junior forward Ashar Harris pulled down a game-best 11 rebounds, which moves her into sixth all-time at MSU with 849. Freshman forward Casey Ryans grabbed a career-best seven rebounds.
 
Tennessee Tech jumped out to a 9-2 advantage three minutes into the game and controlled throughout.  There were three early ties, but Morehead State never led.
 
TTU pushed the advantage to a game-high 21 points with 1:59 left on the clock in the second half.
 
Tennessee Tech knocked down 53 percent from the field (29-of-55), while Morehead State was held to 31 percent (19-of-61).  The Eagles were +1 in rebounding (36-35) and +4 in turnovers (16-12), but the Golden Eagles posted a 34-20 advantage in the paint.
 
Morehead State continues its two-game OVC road trip on Monday at Jacksonville State.  Tip-off from Pete Mathews Coliseum is set for 4 p.m. ET.
