Soccer Prepares for Final Regular-Season Weekend

MOREHEAD, Ky. –
The Morehead State soccer team will complete its 2012 regular season slate this weekend. The Eagles enter the weekend with a 1-11-4 overall record and a 1-4-3 Ohio Valley Conference mark.

Friday’s match at Jayne Stadium features the second-ranked team in the conference, Austin Peay. The Lady Govs sit just three points behind league-leader UT Martin with a 5-2-1 mark in conference play, and are 9-7-1 overall. Kick-off is slated for 7 p.m. ET. Sunday’s match sends the Eagles to Murray State for a 2 p.m. ET start time. The Racers enter the weekend at the bottom of the OVC standings with a 2-6-0 conference record, and are 4-11-0 overall. Live stats and video will be available at MSUEagles.com.

MATCH NOTES

• The Eagles earned a pair of ties with Eastern Illinois and SIU Edwardsville at Jayne Stadium last weekend.
 
• In Friday’s match against the Panthers, senior Sam Toepfer tallied her first goal of the season. MSU outshot EIU 17-7 in the contest, and sophomores Holly Tilley and Macy Cobb had three shots each. In goal, freshman Elizabeth Floyd collected two saves.
 
• On Sunday, Cobb scored the equalizer on the Cougars to salvage a tie. Sophomore Paige Weber was credited with the assist, and Floyd registered seven saves on 18 shots.
 
• Cobb leads MSU with three goals this season. Freshman Kimberly Golden has five points (2g, 1a) for the Eagles, while sophomore Elizabeth McSparin has four (2g).
 
• The Eagles’ 13 goals in 2012 are scattered among nine different players, and five different players account for MSU’s six assists.
 
• MSU is 0-1-4 in overtime matches in 2012. The Eagles have earned draws with St. Francis (Pa.) and OVC opponents Jacksonville State, Eastern Illinois and Southern Illinois Edwardsville. Their loss came at Eastern Kentucky.
