MOREHEAD, Ky. -- The Morehead State baseball team travels to Charleston, W. Va., Tuesday for a midweek contest against non-conference opponent West Virginia at Appalachian Power Park. The game is a scheduled 6 p.m. ET first pitch.
Southpaw
Garrick Whittle (0-2, 9.64 ERA) will toe the rubber for the Eagles in the midweek contest against the Mountaineers. He will face left-handed freshman Caleb Ross (0-2, 7.08 ERA) Tuesday.
The Eagles earned a series victory over Ohio Valley Conference foe Murray State last weekend. Morehead State dropped the first contest, 13-9, before an 11-10 come from behind victory in game two. The Eagles wrapped the series versus the Breds with a 5-4 win Sunday.
Morehead State relied on strong outings from junior closer
Matt Duncan and sidearmer
Morgan Cirbo to secure wins in the final two weekend contests. Duncan notched back-to-back saves in the final two games of the Murray State series. He is currently tied for the conference lead in saves with six. Cirbo appeared in all three games and earned consecutive wins in games two and three. He leads the team with four wins this season.
Senior third baseman
Andrew Deeds began last week ranked second in the nation in hits. Deeds leads the OVC with 46 safeties and is batting .442 this year, with 16 RBI and seven doubles.
Head Coach
Jay Sorg is 1-3 versus West Virginia during his time leading the Morehead State baseball program. The Mountaineers lead the all-time series, beginning in 1976, 8-4.
