MOREHEAD, Ky. –
Visiting Murray State outscored the host Morehead State women’s basketball team 36-12 over a 19-minute span Monday night as the Racers defeated the Eagles 56-48 at Johnson Arena.

Morehead State shot out to a 14-2 lead in the opening eight minutes of the contest and held a 16-5 lead at the 11:14 point. But, the Racers outscored the Eagles 20-6 over the next 10 minutes and then scored 16 of the first 19 in the final half as they improved to 16-11 overall and 8-7 in the Ohio Valley Conference. Morehead State slipped to 9-19 and 5-9 in the league.

“We did a great job executing the game plan early, but when they started to make a run, we didn’t make the adjustments,” Head Coach Tom Hodges said. “Our intensity to start the second wasn’t there. This will be a game that will hurt for a while because we had a great chance to win if we had kept up our intensity.”

Murray State won for just the second time in the last six meetings with the Eagles at Johnson Arena. The Racers held the Eagles to three field goals in the final 11 minutes of the opening half and just two in a 17-minute span in the second frame.

Erika Sisk topped the visitors with 16 points, while Keiona Kirby notched 14, and Mariah Robinson had 11. Kelsey Dirks blocked five shots.

Junior guard Terrice Robinson led the Eagles in scoring for the 17th time this year with 18 points. She also hit 8-of-8 at the free throw line to give her 16 straight charity tosses in the last two contests. Junior guard Allie Turner hit a trio of three-pointers and registered 11 points, her third double figure effort in the last four games.

Sophomore forward Mackenzie Arledge pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds and had three blocks, her third double-figure rebounding game this season.

Morehead State hit 46 percent (10-of-22) in the opening stanza but fashioned just a 24 percent (6-of-25) efficiency in the second half. Murray State hit 41 percent (12-of-29) in the deciding half after managing just 33 percent (9-of-27) in the opening 20 minutes.

Morehead State held a 14-3 rebounding edge in the game’s first six minutes, but the Racers finished with a slight 37-31 advantage on the boards.

Morehead State begins its final road trip of the regular season Thursday at Tennessee State. Tipoff time is set for 1 p.m. ET in the Gentry Center.
