MOREHEAD, Ky. --
Five errors and seventeen stranded base runners were too much for the Morehead State baseball team to overcome, as they failed to secure a series sweep against SIU Edwardsville, losing 12-5 on Saturday afternoon at Allen Field.

The Eagles (15-30, 9-12 Ohio Valley Conference) did manage their second straight league series win, taking two of three from the Cougars (10-29, 7-17 OVC). MSU has won five of its last six in the conference.

All five MSU errors occurred in the first two innings, and the Cougars capitalized by scoring eight runs, with only three of them earned.

Morehead State plated one run in four out of the first five innings, highlighted by RBI hits from sophomore third baseman Kane Sweeney, senior catcher Drew Williams and senior center fielder Taylor Pickens.

A three-run home run off the bat of SIUE senior first baseman Joel Greatting, his lone hit in the series, in the fifth extended the Cougar lead to 11-4. Both teams pushed across one more in the closing innings to wrap up the contest.

Pickens finished the day 3-for-4 from the plate, while sophomore right fielder Brandon Rawe (2-for-5) and junior first baseman Bobby Burns (2-for-4) also registered multiple hits.

MSU freshman right-hander Matt Anderson (1-5) took the loss, allowing seven hits and eight runs, only three of them earned, in just 1.2 innings. Cougar senior righty Brooks McDowell (2-2) picked up the win out of the bullpen, giving up only five hits and two runs in five innings.

The Eagles return to action on Tuesday as they travel to Beckley, W. Va., for a mid-week matchup with Conference USA foe Marshall. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. ET.
