Marshall Downs Baseball in Mid-Week Matchup

BECKLEY, W. Va. --
The Morehead State baseball team out-hit Marshall eight to seven on Tuesday afternoon, but only manufactured one run, falling 4-1 at Epling Stadium.

With the loss, the Eagles fall to 15-31, while the Thundering Herd improve to 17-26.

Six of the Eagles’ eight hits came from sophomore first baseman Kane Sweeney (3-for-3 with a walk), who extended his reached base streak to 37 straight games, and sophomore right-fielder Brandon Rawe (3-for-4).

The Thundering Herd did most of its damage in the bottom of the third, plating three runs on three hits. They pushed their lead to 4-0 in the fifth on a solo home run from right fielder Gray Stafford.

Morehead State got on the board in the seventh when freshman pinch hitter Taylor Sears drove in senior pinch hitter Bobby Lewis with a single to right field.

Eagle freshman right-hander Tyler Keele (3-6) took the loss, allowing six hits and four runs in 4.2 innings. Marshall righty Chase Boster picked up his third win of the season, allowing six hits but no runs in six innings.

The Eagles return to Ohio Valley Conference action on Friday as they travel to Clarksville, Tenn., for a three-game series with Austin Peay. First pitch in game one is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
