MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Freshman midfielder Maggie Hare scored in the 73rd minute, and the Xavier soccer team hung on for a 1-0 win over Morehead State on Sunday afternoon at Jayne Stadium.

Hare's shot, off the left side of the box from approximately 25 yards out, slipped just through the fingertips of Morehead State's goalkeeper.  Her third goal of the campaign was unassisted.

The Big East Conference Musketeers, who have victories over Purdue and Cincinnati this season, improve to 5-0-1.  The Ohio Valley Conference Eagles, who have dropped three one-goal affairs this year, slip to 0-7-1.

Morehead State posted advantages of 14-4 in shots and 5-1 in corner kickers.  Both teams had two attempts on goal.  The Eagles were whistled for eight of the game's 13 fouls.

Freshman forward Angela Black led Morehead State with four shots, while junior forward Macy Cobb had both of MSU's attempts on net.  No Xavier player had more than two shots.

The Eagles open a four-match road trip on Sunday at Southern Conference foe Appalachian State.  Kick-off is set for 1 p.m. ET.  MSU returns home on Oct. 11 and 13 for contests against UT Martin and Southeast Missouri.
