Women's Hoops Strives for Third Straight Win Saturday

MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Looking for its third win in a row, the Morehead State women's basketball team heads to Jacksonville State for a 3 p.m. ET matchup with the Gamecocks Saturday.

MSU (8-11, 4-2 Ohio Valley Conference) is 4-6 on the road this season. JSU (12-7, 3-4 OVC), one of just three OVC teams with an above-.500 overall record this season, is 7-1 at home.

Morehead State then finishes a three-game road swing Monday at Tennessee Tech.

Game notes heading into the contest:
 
The Series
•  Morehead State leads the series 16-8.
•  MSU has an eight-game winning streak in the series and has won the last four times the teams have played in Jacksonville.
 
Chasing History
•  Senior guard Almesha Jones needs only two more assists to set MSU's career record.
•  Jones would become the first player in program history to reach 500 career assists. The current mark is held by Irene Moore (1978-82) with 499. She also needs only 14 more to place her name on the Ohio Valley Conference top-10 career assist list.
 
Keeping Up With the Joneses
•  Almesha Jones is the 22nd member of Morehead State's 1,000-point club. She now has 1,230 career points and is ranked 16th in career points at MSU.
• Jones ranks third in the nation in total assists (155) and is third in assists per game (8.2). She has five double-digit assist games.
• Jones is also ranked 10th in games played at MSU with 106.
 
Fabulous Freshman
• Freshman forward Eriel McKee has scored in double figures in 15 of the 16 collegiate games she's appeared in.
• McKee leads all OVC freshmen in rebounding, pulling down 8.8 per game. She has six double-doubles.
• McKee has two double-doubles in the last three games. She had 17 points, 13 rebounds vs. SIU Edwardsville last Thursday and added 12 points and 11 boards at Austin Peay Monday.
 
Steele The One
• Shay Steele leads the OVC in blocked shots (41). She is now eighth in career blocks (68) at Morehead State.
• Steele has four 20-point games this year.
• She has scored in double figures in seven of the last eight games.
 
Flyin Hawaiian
• Hawaiian native and senior Maiki Viela has nine double-figure scoring games this season. She also leads the MSU starters with an .811 free-throw percentage.
 
Like Father, Like Daughter
• Head Coach Greg Todd has the privilege of coaching his oldest daughter Brooke, a freshman, this year. The pair is one of three parent-child duos in Division I this year, with the others being Duquesne and Mississippi State.
