MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Jared Goldberg, who spent the 2013 and 2014 volleyball seasons as a graduate assistant at Ole Miss, has been hired as an assistant coach at Morehead State. He will assist with a variety of areas, including recruiting, practice planning, opponent scouting and video analysis.
"I want to welcome Jared to the Morehead State volleyball family," Head Coach Jaime Gordon said. "We are very lucky to attract someone with Jared's qualities. He is friendly, bright, passionate, hard working and knowledgeable. His experience and skill set will help us in lots of ways."
At Ole Miss, Goldberg was responsible for tape exchange, statistical analysis and scouting with a program called Data Volley. Playing in one of the nation's top volleyball conferences, the Rebels improved from a 14-17 record (.452) his first season to 22-10 (.688) his second campaign.
Goldberg has had multiple stints working with USA Volleyball. He was promoted to the Junior National Team's technical coordinator in 2015 after spending time as an intern in 2013 and 2014.
"Jared has found a niche with USA Volleyball," Gordon said. "This summer will be another great experience for him and terrific national exposure for our program. Jared is one of the best in the country when it comes to working with Data Volley. Using that software program will be big for us."
Originally from the Washington, D.C., area, Goldberg has worked as a summer camp instructor at three Division I institutions over the past five years. He has assisted the coaching staffs at Ole Miss (2013 and 2014), North Carolina (2011, 2012 and 2014) and American (2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013).
Goldberg played three years of Division I varsity volleyball. He spent the 2012 and 2013 seasons at Grand Canyon (Ariz.) after spending the 2011 campaign at Pacific (Calif.). Goldberg earned a bachelor's degree from Grand Canyon in 2013 and master's degree from Ole Miss in 2015.
Goldberg grew up in a sports family. His father, Barry, has spent 26 seasons as the head volleyball coach at American University. His mother, Bonnie, runs the Metro American Volleyball Club in Washington, D.C. His older sister, Arielle, is the director of the Bay to Bay Volleyball Club in Northern California. And his younger brother, Mitchell, plays lacrosse at the University of Richmond.
"Jared comes from a great sports family," Gordon added. "Coaching volleyball is in Jared's blood, and it's obvious he wants to make this his career. Jared's upbringing has allowed him to accomplish quite a bit in our sport at a relatively young age. He may be young, but his maturity and experience are well beyond his years. We're excited about everything Jared will bring to the table for us."
Gordon enters his 13th season as head coach at Morehead State. The Eagles have claimed seven regular-season Ohio Valley Conference championships and participated in two NCAA Tournaments during his tenure. The three-time OVC Coach of the Year owns a 231-159 record (.592) at MSU.
Kyrsten Becker, who was recently promoted to the top assistant position, enters her fifth year with the program and fourth campaign in a coaching post. Daniel Becker begins his second season as director of volleyball operations after two years as a graduate assistant for athletic video operations.
