Soccer Wraps Up Four Match Home Stand Over the Weekend

LIVE STATS (BGSU) | LIVE STATS (XAVIER)

MOREHEAD, Ky.--- The Morehead State soccer team (0-2) will continue its four-match home stretch to start the season with Bowling Green (2-0) on Friday at 6 p.m. ET and Xavier on Sunday at 1 p.m.

MSU will look to add its first win of the season after coming off a winless opening weekend against Illinois-Chicago and Wright State. According to Head Coach Warren Lipka, leadership is a key concern, and finding those leaders is important.

"I think (senior forward) Kim Golden is a team leader who isn't necessarily vocal, but it's by action," he said. "I think not having Kelsey Patera down on the field hurts us, I think she's our vocal leader, we need her."

Contributions from several freshmen are giving the Eagles a positive look towards the weekend. Forward Dani Wilson collected her first career goal against Wright State on a penalty kick, while midfielder Loren Zimmerman registered her first career assist against Illinois-Chicago on a throw-in to junior midfielder Tonia Parisi. On the defensive side of the field, it was defender Makenna Lavatori who started and played in all 180 minutes over the weekend.

Senior goalkeeper Kaitlynn Murphy started both matches and will continue to start for the Eagles. Murphy won the job coming out of camp, according to Lipka.

"Murph won the spot early on. She's been a hardworking, consistent player throughout training. It gives our back four confidence, and I think she has done a good job," he said.  "She's holding her own and giving us senior leadership we need in the back."
