Charleston, SC.—A full 90 minutes and two 10 minute overtime periods were not enough as Morehead State and Charleston Southern played to a 2-2 tie in the Nike Challenge at CSU.
Â
Freshman forward Dani Wilson played her familiar role as an offensive playmaker, but today she was more of a distributor than a scorer. In the 28th minute, Wilson broke into the goalkeeper's box to find senior midfielder Kristi Gomez slashing through to connect on an off balanced goalkeeper to take the 1-0 lead.Â
Â
Wilson would keep up the magic in the 32nd minute. She attacked from the left corner of the goalkeeper's box, feeding junior forward Lauren Duffy for the lead pass. Duffy's shot was blocked by the goalkeeper, but she collected the rebound, tapping it in to make the score 2-0.The goal by Duffy was the first collegiate goal of her career.Â
Â
CSU would answer in the 57th minute to cut the lead in half. Sophomore forward Anna Sells took a throw in from the far sideline, dribbled into the box, and struck from 15 yards out. The goal for Sells was her third of the season.Â
Â
The Bucs would keep up the attack in the closing minutes, scoring off an assist from Sells. Sophomore midfielder Erica Gazzani made her way into the box for a 10 yard strike, tying the game at two.Â
Â
"Defensively, I'm not pleased where we are. On the attacking side we're creating chances and getting goals," said Head Coach Warren Lipka. "We have to shore up our back end now."
Four players for MSU were named to the Nike Challenge first team, senior midfielder Kristi Gomez, freshman defender Makenna Lavatori, freshman forward Samantha Damante, and freshman forward Dani Wilson.

The Eagles head back to Jayne Stadium to play Ball State next Sunday at 1 p.m.
