MOREHEAD, Ky. – On Sunday, Oct. 9, Morehead State soccer (3-9-2, 0-4-1 Ohio Valley Conference) will host Eastern Illinois (4-8, 1-3 OVC) at 1 p.m. ET.
The Eagles are coming off a 2-1 double-overtime loss to SIU Edwardsville last Thursday. Morehead State's lone goal came in the 82nd minute, by way of an
Ashley Ritchie assist to freshman
Morgan Vonderheide. The Cougars would ultimately go on to break the tie at 102:48, handing the Eagles just their second home loss of the season.
Sunday's match will also mark Morehead State's annual senior day ceremony. Over the past four seasons,
Tonia Parisi,
Ashley Huffine, and
Angela Black have been part of 33 program wins, with a chance to add to that total. The trio helped lead the Eagles to an NCAA Tournament berth and the OVC Tournament crown in 2013. They have also been part of three straight OVC Tournament appearances, earning four postseason victories in the process.
Parisi is a redshirt-senior from Addison, Ill. Since coming to Morehead State from Addison Trail High School, she is set to appear in her 44th match, making her fifth career start. She has accumulated one goal and five shot attempts over 990 career minutes, and will graduate in December with a bachelor's degree in exercise science.
"Tonia has been one of our most committed players," said head coach
Warren Lipka. "She's a technical player with a great deal of soccer knowledge. I know she will be successful in whatever she does."
Huffine came to Morehead State from Russell High School in Russell, Ky. She is set to appear in her 15th match, making her first career start. She has played 217 minutes over a career hindered by injury. She will graduate in May with a bachelor's degree in healthcare administration.
"Ashley is a true fighter," said Lipka. "She's been plagued with injuries out of her control, but always put the team in front. I love her true grit and determination to succeed."
Black is a former Lindbergh High School standout from St. Louis, Mo. She is set to appear in her 78th match, making her 37th career start. She has accumulated 14 goals, 12 assists, 142 shot attempts, and 64 shots on goal over 4,272 career minutes. Black has garnered second team All-OVC, OVC Freshman of the Year, OVC All-Newcomer, OVC Offensive Player of the Week, and OVC Defensive Player of the Week honors over the past four years. She will graduate in May with a bachelor's degree in sport management.
"Angela is one of the most gifted players I have had the pleasure to coach," Lipka said. "She has really grown into a leader and someone we can depend on. She will be hard to replace."
Senior day ceremonies will take place prior to Sunday's match. Each senior will be escorted onto the playing field by her family. Sunday's match will be broadcast live on the
OVC Digital Network.
