MOREHEAD, Ky. – Morehead State soccer (3-3-1) will travel to Muncie, Ind. to face the Ball State Cardinals (4-2-1) on Friday, Sept. 16 at 5 p.m. ET.
"(Ball State) has beaten some top teams. They're well coached," said Eagles head coach
Warren Lipka. "There's nobody on our schedule that we can look past."
The Eagles saw a three-game unbeaten streak end at the hands of Western Kentucky last Sunday. Now, as Morehead State enters the second leg of three consecutive road matches to end non-conference play, day-to-day growth is key.
"This is a good weekend for us to go get some things done, and get us prepared for conference," Lipka said. "We always want the result, but we also want to see improvement in our game."
The Eagles will be focusing more closely on the product on the field, rather than the match's final whistle.
"Sometimes, you can play a game and not be the better team, and get the victory," said Lipka. "We need to hold ourselves to a standard that we play at a certain level, and we maintain that standard. That way, if we don't get a result, we still did what we needed to do."
Morehead State freshman goalkeeper Eva Ýr Helgadóttir made her third start in net, recording six saves off 22 shot attempts from Western Kentucky on Sunday. Freshman forward
Ashley Ritchie leads the Eagles in both shot attempts (16) and goals (3) on the season.
"We just move from next game to the next game. What we look to do is improve," said Lipka. "Hopefully, we can take that standard a step forward."
After Friday's match with Ball State, the Eagles will face Valparaiso on Sunday, Sept. 18 at 2 p.m. ET.
