MOREHEAD, Ky. – After falling to Valparaiso by a score of 2-1 in double overtime last Sunday, the Morehead State soccer team ended the non-conference portion of its schedule with a 3-5-1 record. Ohio Valley Conference play will start Thursday when Austin Peay (5-4) visits Jayne Stadium at 7 p.m. ET.

"Every coach in the country says, 'Here's the second part of the season,'" said head coach Warren Lipka. "'This is a new season. Whatever's happened before, let's use it as experience, and let's go forward.'"

Morehead State looks to build off the second-half momentum from Sunday's match at Valpo, led by freshman goalkeeper Caitlynn Mason. The 5-foot-5 former Oldham County High School (Ky.) standout faced 14 shots and grabbed six saves in less than 60 minutes versus the Crusaders.

"Caitlynn has done a great job whenever she's been called upon," said Lipka, who has divided playing time among the three goalies on the Eagle roster. "No complaints at all with our goalkeeping. They're doing a really good job."

The Eagles' attack was led by sophomore Abby Timm, who landed two of her five shot attempts on goal. The Byron, Ill., native's 14 shots on the year are good for second on the team, behind freshman forward Ashley Ritchie's 18. Nine of Morehead State's 12 shot attempts last Sunday came after a pivotal turnaround from a stagnant first half.

"We're always looking for a result, but we're looking for better play from our players," Lipka said. "The only way we get success is if we play well and we are consistent."

The Eagles welcome the Governors of Austin Peay to Jayne Stadium, where Morehead State has an undefeated record this season. Two of the Eagles' three victories have come at home.

"I think we're ready," said Lipka. "We've just got to get in there and give them that confidence that they need to be successful, and go from there."

Thursday's match will be broadcast live on the OVC Digital Network.
