MOREHEAD, Ky. - Following a sweep of Wright State on Wednesday, Morehead State softball returns to Ohio Valley Conference play when they host Belmont on Friday at 1 and 3 p.m. ET.
The Eagles enter the weekend with a 22-16 record and they are 3-7 in the OVC, while Belmont is 28-12 and 4-6 in league play.
"Belmont is playing well this year, they're doing a really good job. They have a good pitching staff and they've been putting the ball in play. We're going to have to do a lot of the same things that we did against Wright State to be successful. We're going to have to make adjustments at the plate and we're going to have to get solid defense behind our pitchers," said head coach
David Williams.
In the sweep over the Raiders, the Eagles got strong pitching performances from junior
Chelsea McManaway and senior
Megan Tymorek. McManaway threw her third no-hitter of the season, while Tymorek threw her first shutout of the year.
"Both pitchers really controlled the other team and that was huge. Chelsea worked ahead and threw very few pitches and Megan did a lot of the same. It was good to see our pitchers limit their pitch counts and let the defense play behind them," said Williams.
Sophomore
Ellen Barrett hits two home runs in the sweep. She hit a solo shot in her first at-bat in game one and then hit a another solo home in game two, which was the second of back-to-back home runs from her and junior
Robyn Leighton in the sixth inning.
Barrett now has nine home runs on the season, which ranks second on the team behind Leighton's 11. The single season record for home runs in a season belongs to Amber Riddle, who hit 12 in 2012.
Both games will air on Facebook Live and you can find live stats at MSUEagles.com.
