MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State freshman golfer
Ruth Tonnessen has earned her first career Ohio Valley Conference Golfer of the Week accolade.
The Stavanger, Norway, product becomes the fifth different Eagle to earn a Golfer of the Week honor in the past two seasons, marking the seventh overall weekly award an MSU golfer has been bestowed since the beginning of 2021-22.
Tonnessen keyed the Eagles to a repeat victory at the UIC Briar Ridge Invitational this week by scoring her first-ever top-5 finish. Tonnessen's 75-71-146 was just four strokes off the lead, and she finished third among 73 golfers.
Prior to enrolling at MSU, qualified to represent Norway at the European Girls Championship in 2021 and had six top-five finishes in Norway's Srixon U19 Tour and the Garmin Norgescup, where amateurs and professionals compete throughout Norway.
