Baseball Picked to Finish Second in OVC, Three Eagles Tabbed Preseason All-OVC

MOREHEAD, Ky. – In the OVC's official preseason release Thursday, Morehead State's baseball team was picked to finish second in the conference, with three Eagles tabbed to the Preseason All-OVC team, including Jackson Feltner as Player of the Year and John Bakke as Pitcher of the Year.

Morehead State baseball has qualified for the last eight OVC Tournaments, with third place finishes in three straight seasons (not counting 2020). The Eagles are one of two teams with multiple OVC Tournament titles since 2015, advancing to an NCAA Regional in both 2015 and 2018, with defending back-to-back champion Southeast Missouri winning three times in that time frame.

Earlier in the offseason, Jackson Feltner and John Bakke were tabbed as the OVC's Player and Pitcher of the Year by Perfect Game, and their opponents in the OVC agree. Feltner would be the first Morehead State player to win the OVC Player of the Year award since Niko Hulsizer in 2017. Bakke would be the first official OVC Pitcher of the Year award winner in program history, with Drew Hall (1984) and Tinker Chapman (1976) winning the OVC Player of the Year award as pitchers.

Nick Gooden was named to the Preseason All-OVC squad as well. Gooden was named First Team All-OVC in 2022, after batting .332 overall (.400 in OVC play) with four home runs and 33 RBI.  Morehead State's three selections to the Preseason All-OVC team tied with SIUE and SEMO for the most in the conference.

In just over a week, baseball season opens for Morehead State in Norfolk, Va., with a four-game set vs. Norfolk State. OVC play begins in late March for MSU at Southern Indiana.
