MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Blessing King and
Hallie Rhodes from Morehead State women's basketball have been honored on the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team.
According to records, the pair become just the second and third women's basketball Eagles in the history of the program to earn Academic All-District.
The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) began the distinguished Academic All-America® program in 1952, and since then, has honored thousands of deserving student-athletes from numerous sports across all divisions with these elite Academic All-America® scholar-athlete honors. In 2022, CoSIDA re-branded itself as the College Sports Communicators.
Currently, CSC sponsors Academic All-America® programs for men's soccer, women's soccer, football, volleyball, men's basketball, women's basketball, baseball, softball, swimming and diving and men's and women's track and field/cross country. Many other sports are eligible through the At-Large program. In 2022, the guidelines were updated to include more representation on the All-District teams. Sports have limitations to the number of athletes that can be nominated and the minimum grade-point average was raised to 3.50.
King, a sophomore from Columbus, Ohio, had one of the more incredible rebounding seasons in program history. Her 318 total boards this past season ranks 10th on the MSU single-season chart. She ranked second in the OVC with a 10.6 average on the glass. King had nearly as many offensive rebounds (145) than defensive caroms (173). She had 20 double-digit rebounding efforts. King is a strategic communications major with a 3.83 cumulative grade-point average (GPA).
Rhodes is a sophomore from Keller, Texas, who had a breakout season. She is a guard/forward combo who has a 3.83 GPA in finance.Rhodes ranked second on the team with a 10.7 scoring average to go along with 5.5 rebounds per outing. She shot 45 percent for the year and had 17 double-figure scoring performances.
