RESULTS (SAC STATE | CSUN)
MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Once again, Morehead State Beach Volleyball gave its top effort Saturday, but the Eagles came up on the short end of both their matches to close out the Malibu Invite at Pepperdine. MSU fell to a pair of California schools, Sacramento State (3-2) and 5-0 to Cal State Northridge.
Morehead State heads back home with a 6-6 record.
The bright spots in the match against the SSU Hornets was the Nos. 3-4 pairs. At No. 3,
Sarah Heath and
Peighton Isley prevailed in straight sets 21-13, 21-17. Over on court four,
Brenna Bommer and
Shea Hefner outlasted Victoria Marthaler and Mia Guevara 21-17, 20-22, 15-13. The next closest match was No. 2 where
M.E. Hargan and
Sydney Wyman fell 21-18, 21-17.
MSU nearly dropped all the sets to the Matadors of CSUN, but Heath and Isley fought back to force a third set at No. 3. The duo trailed 20-18 in set two but found some magic in a 6-2 rally to win 24-22. They were on the brink of claiming the set win in the finale but ended up succumbing 16-14.
On court five,
Amelia Nott and
Courtney Fitzgerald also forced extra points but lost 22-20 in the second frame.
Morehead Stayte heads to UT Martin next weekend for the first of two Ohio Valley Conference weekends where the Eagles face UTM, Eastern Illinois, Lindenwood and Chattanooga.
