MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State Beach Volleyball swept its weekend series at Tennessee Tech with a 3-2 thriller over the Golden Eagles Saturday at the TTU Beach Courts. Four of the five decisions went to three sets.
The Eagles improved to 5-1 in the OVC and to 11-7 overall. TTU slides back to 3-10 overall and 1-5 in OVC matches.
MSU picked up the victory by earning wins at the Nos. 1,3 and 5 pairs as Nos. 1 and 3 went three sets. The Eagles took Nos. 2 and 4 to three sets before falling.
At No. 1,
Irene Wogenstahl and
Bella Marita outlasted Alayna Pierce and Bella Powell 21-19, 18-21, 17-15. Over on No. 3,
M.E. Hargan and
Peighton Isley rallied from a set down to claim a 14-21, 23-21, 15-12 triumph. No. 5 was the only duel that didn't go the full trio as
Courtney Fitzgerald and
Hollan Everett won identical 21-16 decisions.
At No. 2,
Sydney Wyman and
Sarah Heath won the middle set but fell 15-12 in the finale. On court 4,
Brenna Bommer and
Shea Hefner also claimed the second set before succumbing 15-4 to drop the match..
MSU returns to action for a non-conference pair at Eastern Kentucky on Tuesday, April 8. The Eagles will face EKU and Tusculum (Tenn.) there at Noon and 2 p.m., respectively.
