MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Prior to its final home match Saturday night at Giovanni's Breadstick Beach, Morehead State Beach Volleyball celebrated its 2025 season class. While the match following didn't go in the Eagles' favor, MSU did capture its earlier battle in the day, 3-2, over Lindenwood.
Chattanooga bested the Eagles 5-0, but Morehead State concluded the OVC ledger at 7-3 and will sit in the No. 3 seed for the tournament this coming week at UTC.Â
The lower half of the lineup provided the firepower to tame the Lions. No. 4 pair
Brenna Bommer and
Shea Hefner lifted MSU to a 1-0 lead with a 21-16, 21-12 win. Next up,
Hollan Everett and
Courtney Fitzgerald rallied for a dramatic 19-21, 23-21, 15-13 triumph in dual No. 5. No. 3 duo
Peighton Isley and
M.E. Hargan sealed the Lions' fate as they claimed a straight-set (21-15, 21-17) victory.
Both Eagle pairs at Nos. 1-2 went back and forth into the third set.
Irene Wogenstahl and
Bella Marita won the first set 21-17 but succumbed 21-13 and 15-10 to drop their matchup. The No. 2 tandem of
Sarah Heath and
Sydney Wyman were locked in the most tense battle as they fell in the third set 20-18.
The Mocs ended up taking all duals against the Eagles in two sets, but Wogenstahl and Marita gave the fans something to stand up for as the final match of the weekend played out. They traded blows with UTC top pair Corina Vale and Neva Clark but finally fell 25-23 in the second frame.
The OVC Tournament starts Thursday as MSU will be in the Noon ET matchup versus No. 6 Eastern Illinois.
