Eagle Volleyball to Host the Comfort Inn-Vitational Friday and Saturday

Morehead, Ky.-- The Morehead State volleyball team is set to host the annual Comfort Inn-Vitational this weekend in Johnson Arena. 

The Eagles will open the multi-team event with a 10:00 a.m., tilt against Toledo Friday.  MSU will close out Friday at 7:00 p.m., when they square off with UIC.  That match is Giovanni's Pizza Night. The first 50 fans in attendance will receive a free Giovanni's personal sized pizza.

Saturday begins with an 11:00 a.m. match between Toledo and UIC. MSU will close out the event with a 2:00 p.m. match against Radford. That match is Youth Volleyball Day. Any youth player wearing their team jersey will receive free admission. Morehead State's matches can be seen on ESPN+.

PREVIOUS MEETINGS AND SERIES HISTORY
  • Morehead State is 2-1 against Toledo. The last meeting was September 2, 2022. Toledo swept the Eagles in Ann Arbor, Michigan
  • The Eagles are 2-0 against UIC. The last meeting was a 2-0 win on October 17, 1981 in Dayton, Ohio.
  • MSU is 6-2 against Radford. The last meeting was September 7, 2024. The Eagles took a five-set win over the Highlanders in Richmond, Ky.  
 
NOTABLE

• MSU finished the 2024 season with an 18-15 overall record and a 12-6 mark in Ohio Valley Conference play (4th in the regular season standings). The Eagles graduated 49% of their kills from last season.
 
• MSU hosted Eastern Kentucky August 23rd for their lone preseason tuneup. After dropping the first two sets 14-25 and 23-25, the Eagles won three straight sets (25-21, 25-22, 15-10) to pull off the reverse sweep.
 
• Last weekend in the Cardinal Classic, MSU went 1-2, sweeping St. John's in the opener. In that match, senior M.E. Hargan led the Eagle attack with 16 kills. She also led MSU with 13 digs for the 21st double/double of her career. Hollan Everett had a big day with 14 kills and six blocks.
 
• MSU recorded 15 blocks against St. John's to just three for the Red Storm.
 
• In the St. John's match Hargan became the 22nd member of the 1000-kill club at Morehead State. She has been a First Team All-OVC selection the past two seasons.
 
• Hargan leads the Ohio Valley conference averaging 4.56 kills per set. She slammed 41 terminations last weekend with a .262 hitting percentage. Her 5.22 points per set also tops the OVC.
 
• Hargan ranks 6th in the modern (25-point rally scoring) era in the MSU record books with 1,036 career kills. She also ranks 6th in the modern era with 3,042 Total Attacks.
 
• Amelia Nott tied for the club lead with 119 total blocks in 2024. That ranked ninth in the OVC. Nott also led the Eagles with 35 service aces last season. This season Nott is tied with Everett for the team lead after the first weekend with seven blocks. She is tied with for team honors with freshman Kennedy Tinch with four aces apiece.
 
• Late in the third set Sunday at Louisville, Nott slammed three aces in four services.
 
• Hometown product Bailey Brashear spent her first three collegiate seasons at Quinnipiac before transferring to MSU last Spring. Last season she recorded 95 kills, 78 total blocks and five aces in 27 matches. She holds the Rowan County Senior High School records with 1,250 kills and 306 total blocks. Through the first three matches of this season, she has five kills and six total blocks.
