Rifle Ups Its Game in Second Victory of the Weekend

MOREHEAD, Ky. -- In just the second match of the 2026-27 season, the future looks extremely bright for Morehead State Rifle. The Eagles upped their aggregate total 20 points from Saturday's opening action and scored 4,689 in a weekend sweep over Mount Aloysius (Pa.) at Button Range.

The team's total represented the third highest aggregate score in program history, just two points off the 2023 team's 4,691 scorecard versus UT Martin and the school record of 4,702 set last season.

Freshman Ysabelle Martinez shined early in her collegiate career, leading all shooters in aggregate total (1178), Smallbore (585) and tied in Air Rifle (593). In fact, all five counters in Air Rifle scored 590 or better as MSU piled up a 2,368 - which is tied for the third-best Air score in a match in school history. The Eagles had a 2,321 Smallbore total.

Mount Aloysius ended Sunday with a 4,592, one point better than its previous school record set Saturday.

MSU's Air Rifle crew was paced by Martinez and junior Trey Myers, who both totaled 593. Junior Chloe Shannon was just a point behind at 592, and freshmen Lucy Evans and Karis Junker each joined the 590 club as well.

In Smallbore, both Martinez (585) and Myers (582) edged into the 580 club. Freshman James "J.T." Wright, III was close behind with a 579, while Shannon closed the day at 575. Junior George Kuhne rounded out the counters at 571.

Others in the high-scoring range in Air ,but not in the lineup, were senior Corbin Jockers with a 587, Kuhne (584), Wright (580) and senior Maria Koenig (580).
