Big Innings Shoot Down Eagles- MSU Rallies but Falls 10-8 at Southern

Morehead, Ky. -- Big innings in the fourth and the fifth for Southern were too much to absorb and Morehead State fell to the Jaguars 10-8 Saturday night in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Morehead State (3-7) got three runs in the top of the fourth inning to push ahead 4-1. Eagle designated hitter Brayton Coomer drilled a two-run double just fair down the third base line. Second baseman Nick Griffith drove him home with a triple into deep center field.

Southern (4-6) sent nine men to the plate in the bottom of the fourth, plating three runs to tie the game up a 4-4. In the fifth, center fielder Jaden Hart led off hit by a pitch. Hart stole second and scored when Caden Sheridan reached on a two-base error by Jaguar third baseman Kenyon Hughes.

Sheridan scored when MSU third baseman Aubrey Kearns drilled a two-out single to left to push the Eagle lead back to 6-4. Sheridan started the Eagle scoring with a two-out blast over the left-center field wall in the third inning, his third round-tripper of the season.

Southern got the lead back in the fifth. The Jaguars sent 10 men to the plate and scored four runs on five hits and led 8-6.

Morehead State evened it up in the seventh inning: Sheridan drew a one-out walk and right fielder Davis Germann hit a majestic drive over the wall in deep left center, his first home run of the season.

The first two Southern batters were retired in the bottom of the seventh. The Jaguars got three consecutive hits, plating two runs for the final margin.
