MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State's
Remy Stalcup was recently at the top of his game, and his efforts have earned a spot in the 126th United States Amateur Golf Championship.
The event will be held Aug. 10-16 in Pennsylvania, at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore and Philadelphia Country Club in Gladwyne. Stalcup won his local qualifying in Michigan in June and then finished in the top 10 in final qualifying at Ohio State's Course this month.
"It was an awesome experience playing in the U.S. Amateur Qualifier and getting through to play next month," he said. "I did not have my best ball-striking day, but it was good enough for a playoff. Â I made it through the 7 for 5 playoff on the first hole with a two-putt par. Â Now I look forward to getting ready and heading out to Merion in a few weeks."
Stalcup, a rising senior from Lake Orion, Mich., fired a stellar 64 (5-under par) at local qualifying on June 22 at Bloomfield Hills (Mich.) Country Club. He won the event there, which sent him to the Ohio State Scarlet Course for final qualifying on July 15. Stalcup fashioned a one-under-par 70 to finish tied for ninth and just getting in ahead of the cutoff.Â
The last Eagle to qualify and play in a U.S. Amateur was Logan Hogge in 2016.
Past notable winners of the U.S. Amateur have included Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Bryson DeChambeau.
Stalcup concluded the 2025-26 Eagle season with a 75.4 average and a pair of top-10 scorecards.
