Men's Golf Continues Fall Season at SIUE Dolenc Invitational

MOREHEAD, Ky, -- Following a top-five team performance and an individual tournament win from Remy Stalcup, Morehead State Men's Golf is back in action Sept. 28-29 at the SIUE Dolenc Invitational in Madison, Ill., at Gateway National Golf Links.

MSU will play 36 holes on Monday, followed by 18 holes on Tuesday.

This will be third year in the past four years in which the Eagles will compete in the Dolenc Tournament hosted by SIUE.

Last year, Morehead State finished 2nd of 18 teams in the same tournament. The Eagles score of 833 set the program record for a 54-hole tournament. It was previously 834 at the JT Poston Invitational in 2019. This was also the first team score of -19 which is also a program record for relation to par. 

This tournament will feature eight Ohio Valley Conference schools, giving the Eagles a good look at some conference competition.

The Eagles are coming off a fifth place finish in the Joe Feaganes Invitational. MSU was only four strokes behind Bellarmine, who won the tournament. 

Stalcup finished first in the tournament out of 92 individuals, carding a career-best 68-68-67—203 (-10). 

Stalcup's first-place finish, fueled by his consistency across all three rounds, puts him tied for second over the past 15 seasons for the lowest individual score (203) and tied for third for the lowest score in relation to par (-10). Stalcup's performance matched the final score posted by Nolan Piazza at the Joe Feaganes Invitational on Sept. 11-12, 2023, when Piazza carded a 203 (-10) identical to Stalcup's mark.

Following the tournament, Stalcup was named Co-OVC Golfer of the Week for the second time in his career.

MSU jumped Murray State and Youngstown State in the final round thanks to a strong team performance, recording a 277 (-7) in the third round. The Eagles' third-round score is tied for the 13th-best round in relation to par (-7) in any tournament dating back to the 2011-12 season.

Seamus Bogan and Gavin Augenstein also put together strong tournament performances, each tying for 13th with a score of 210 (-3).
