Late JSU Runs Spoil Eagle Senior Day

MOREHEAD, Ky.—Morehead State baseball rallied from an eight-run deficit to pull within one, but Jacksonville State scored 10 runs in the final two innings to defeat MSU 21-10 Saturday afternoon at Allen Field. The game was the OVC and regular season finale for both teams.

The Eagles honored their six seniors: Drew Lee, #J.D. Ashbrook#, Michael Bottoms, Michael Fahs, Quentin Morgan and Hunter Hewitt prior to the game. Bottoms, Lee and Ashbrook were also presented with season awards. Bottoms was given the Steve Hamilton Pitcher of the Year award, and Ashbrook shared the Eddie Wallingford MVP award with Lee. Lee also was given the Sonny Allen Lifetime Achievement Award for breaking most of the MSU offensive career records.

The Gamecocks scored nine runs in the first two innings on four home runs to take a quick 9-2 lead. MSU tallied one run each in the first and second on a RBI single by Daniel Pugh that scored Ashbrook and a RBI single by Ashbrook that plated Michael Fear. JSU (29-24; 15-8 OVC) added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to extended the lead to 11-3 before the Eagles loaded the bases for Andrew Deeds.
