Eagle Tennis Downed 7-0 by Eastern Michigan

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The women’s tennis team was defeated 7-0 by Eastern Michigan in non-conference tennis action at the Huntington Tennis Center in Huntington, W.Va. this afternoon. With the loss the Eagles drop to 0-2 on the season, while Eastern Michigan improves to 1-1.

Eastern Michigan was able to sweep all three matches in the doubles, to take the point and start with an early advantage in the match. Jessica Montemayor and Lauren Delaney were upended 8-2 by Miriam Westerink and Nino Mebuke and Brooke Helms and Catharine Butts were blanked 8-0 by Eastern Michigan’s duo of Xu Chang and Mariya Toncheva. Rounding out the doubles action was Alix Young and Victoria Cran who played the best match of the afternoon, but couldn’t hold on and eventually succumbed to Celine Donnet and Georgia de ‘Lisle-Tarr 8-7.

The Eagles couldn’t bounce back in singles play and were defeated at all six positions. Cran won her first set, but was defeated by Marcela Rivero 6-4, 1-6, 6-10. Delaney would also win her first set, but could not hold on and lost her final two sets 0-6, 4-10.

The Eagles will return to action on Jan. 23 when they battle Louisville.
