MOREHEAD, Ky. –
Morehead State senior guard Courtney Lumpkin scored 27 points and fellow senior guard Linda Dixon added 22 as the Eagle women’s basketball team knocked off Ohio Valley Conference rival Eastern Kentucky 68-58 Saturday night at Johnson Arena.

The Eagles improve to 7-10 and 4-1 in the OVC, while EKU falls to 8-8 and 4-2 in the league.

The victory was also the 11th in the last 13 meetings for MSU against the Lady Colonels.

Junior forward Ashar Harris collected a game-high 14 rebounds as the Eagles out-rebounded EKU 42-39. Harris tied her career-high with six assists too.

In the process of leading the team in scoring, Lumpkin also had four assists and became just the second player in school history to score at least 1,000 career points and dish out 450 career assists.

Carla Booth and Jade Barber each scored a team-high 14 for the visitors.

Lumpkin scored 16 first-half points and helped ignite an early 8-0 run. With the game tied at 4-4, she hit the next three buckets as MSU built a 12-4 lead. The Lady Colonels rallied later to knot the contest at 17-all, but Lumpkin buried another three-pointer and the Eagles outscored the visitors 14-6 in the final 6:32 to lead 31-23 at the half.

After the Eagles built their advantage back out to eight (39-31), EKU trimmed the MSU lead down to just one, at 43-42, with 10:37 left. But, a three-pointer by Dixon started a 15-3 Eagle run that Lumpkin capped with a free throw at the 4:46 mark. MSU built its largest lead at 13 (58-45).

Mackenzie Arledge grabbed a career-high eight rebounds for the Eagles, who shot 48 percent in the second half and 41 percent for the game. EKU hit 36 percent of its shots.
