MOREHEAD, Ky. -- The Morehead State women's tennis team won its third consecutive match Sunday, topping visiting Bellarmine University 7-0 at the Eagle Center Indoor Courts.
The Eagles improved to 5-4, and the Lady Knights sunk to 3-3 on the year.
"I thought everyone on the team came out focused and ready to play," said MSU Assistant Coach Meg Rozboril. "Overall, it was a great team victory, and I am proud of how determined everyone was today."
The Eagles set the tone early as senior Alix Young and freshman Alexis Garrett cruised to an 8-0 doubles victory on court two. Juniors Victoria Cran and Brooke Helms won 8-3 at number one, and freshman Shilpa Naruka and senior Jessica Montemator teamed up to seal the first point with an 8-6 winner at number three.
The Eagles continued their winning ways with five straight-set singles victories. Helms shut out Abby Day at number four, 6-0, 6-0, and Montemayor lost just one game in her court five win. Young dropped her first set 6-4 to Rebecca Porter but responded with 6-4 wins in sets two and three.
The Eagles return to action at home on Friday, hosting University of Charleston at 4 p.m.
