EKU Sweeps Women's Tennis

RESULTS

RICHMOND, Ky. --
After battling the host Eastern Kentucky women's tennis team in a two-hour doubles affair, the Morehead State Eagles lost the point and then went on to drop all six singles matches in a 7-0 defeat Tuesday at the EKU Tennis Courts.

MSU dropped its second straight to fall to 10-6 overall and 3-2 in the Ohio Valley Conference, while EKU stayed perfect in the league at 5-0 and moved to 12-6 overall.

Freshman Alexis Garrett and senior Alix Young put up the toughest fight before falling 9-7 to Saioa Oscoz and Milena Poffo at number two. Juniors Brooke Helms and Victoria Cran battled but dropped an 8-6 contest at number one, and senior Jessica Montemayor and freshman Shilpa Naruka lost a doubles match for the first time all season.

The hosts carried the momentum from the doubles wins over to singles where EKU was victorious in straight sets in five of the six matches. Montemayor took her foe, Melissa Gerritson, to three sets before succumbing 7-5, 2-6, 5-10.

The Eagles hit the road for a pair of OVC matches this weekend. MSU is set to face UT Martin Friday and Southeast Missouri Saturday.
