RICHMOND, Ky. – The Morehead State women’s tennis team took the doubles point from Butler but dropped four of the six singles points to lose a 4-3 decision on Saturday evening at Eastern Kentucky.
Butler improves to 2-4 on the season, while the Eagles fall to 0-6.
“We battled through illness and injury all season, and we just came up short today,” Head Coach Kevin Fulton said. “I am extremely proud of our ladies who played through pain and illness today.”
In doubles action the Eagles took the point with wins at Nos. 1 and 3. On court one freshman Briar Preston and senior Victoria Cran edged Bulldog pair Stephanie McLoughlin and Konstantina Adami 8-7 (7-4). At No. 3, freshmen pair Lissa Pacheco-Brousseau and Sandrine Beaule knocked off Kristen Haeberlein and Clare Cornelius 8-0.
Butler picked up singles wins at Nos. 1, 2, 3 and 6 to rally for the victory. Pacheco-Brousseau was victorious on court four by beating Sienna Reuter 6-2, 6-3. Beaule blanked Cornelius on court five 6-0, 6-0.
The Eagles return to action on Friday when they travel to face non-conference foe Saint Louis at 3 p.m. ET.
