CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -- The Morehead State women's tennis team lost at Ohio Valley Conference foe Austin Peay 6-1 on Sunday evening.
The Governors improved to 3-9 and 1-1 in the OVC, while the Eagles slip to 1-11 overall and 0-2 in the league.
Morehead State started off by winning the doubles point. At No. 1 Eagle senior Victoria Cran and freshman Dominique McLean defeated Ornella Di Salvo and Andra Cornea 8-5. The Eagles took the point on court three when freshmen Morgan Wright and Briar Preston knocked off Jovana Karac and Mary Theresa Kubek 8-6.
The Eagles were unable to capitalize on their double point when they dropped all six singles matches. At No. 1 Alison Carre outlasted Cran 4-6, 6-1, 6-3. On court two Cornea knocked off freshman Lissa Pacheco-Brousseau 7-5, 6-1. At No. 3 Di Salvo came away victorious against McLean 6-1, 6-1.
MSU’s freshman Sandrine Beaule couldn’t keep up with Tavares, losing 6-1, 6-1, on court four. At No. 5 Jovana Karac defeated Wright 6-2, 6-1. And on court six Preston won the first set over Julie Covington but was forced to retire in the second frame.
Morehead State returns to action when it hosts Northern Kentucky on Tuesday at the EAGLE Center.
