MOREHEAD, Ky. -- The Morehead State women's tennis team claimed nine victories, while two players advanced into the semifinals or finals or their respective singles draws, last weekend at the Indiana Hoosier Classic.
Senior Alex Tachovsky won a pair of singles matchups and advanced to the championship contest of her flight, while sophomore Hayley Wild collected two singles and doubles victories while advancing to a singles semifinal battle.
Tachovsky knocked off Western Michigan's Caroline Aleck (7-6, 6-4) and Cincinnati's Ali Miller (6-2, 2-6, 10-8) before falling in the championship match of the "Indiana" bracket.
Wild defeated Brittany Huxley (3-6, 7-5, 10-6) of Middle Tennessee in the opening round of the "Indiana" bracket before taking a 6-3, 6-3 loss to the host school's Mary Beth King in the semifinals. She responded with a victory (4-6, 6-4, 10-7) against Natalia Abdalla of Cincinnati in the consolation round.
Wild teamed with sophomore Andrea LeBlanc for a pair of doubles wins. They bested the Indiana pair of King and Paula Gutierrez (8-6) in the first round and ousted Tracy Kuhle/Barbare Eristavi (8-3) of Western Michigan next. In the semifinals, they trailed a DePaul pair before defaulting. The MSU duo finished with an 8-3 record this fall.
LeBlanc and junior Ayaka Terashi also won a singles match apiece, and junior Dominique-Chante Mclean partnered with Terashi for one doubles triumph.
The tournament wrapped up the fall schedule for MSU. The team will begin the dual-match season in January.
