PITTSBURGH, Pa. –
The Pittsburgh Panthers defeated the Morehead State women's tennis team 7-0 Saturday at the Alpha Tennis and Fitness Center.

The contest was the Panthers' season opener. The Eagles slipped to 1-3.

"It was an uncomfortable environment to play in," Head Coach Kevin Fulton said. "But we battled hard, and we just have to learn how to handle venues like this. Pittsburgh will be a good team in the ACC."

With just five players traveling, Morehead State had to default at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles. Pittsburgh's Amanda Wickman and Audrey Ann Blakely defeated MSU freshmen Andrea LeBlanc and Hayley Wild 6-1 on the second court to grab the opening point. At No. 1, sophomores Briar Preston and Sandrine Beaule claimed a 6-4 win over Taylor Washington and Jocelyn Lu.

"I was proud of how Briar competed today," Fulton added. "I look forward to this week coming up when we make some adjustments to get better."

Pittsburgh continued by winning all five single matches. At No. 1 Preston put up a good fight against Washington in a three-set battle, 5-7, 6-2, 10-8. On the second court LeBlanc fell to Blakely 6-4, 6-1, and on court three Pittsburgh's Lorade Ogungbesan knocked down sophomore Dominique McLean 6-2, 6-3.

On court four, Beaule lost to Katherine Castro 6-1, 6-1, and at No. 5 Wild dropped a 6-4, 6-2 decision to Wickman.

Morehead State continues its season by traveling to Louisville. The match is scheduled for Thursday at 6 p.m. ET.
