LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The Morehead State women's tennis team absorbed a 7-0 defeat at Louisville Thursday afternoon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
The Cardinals improved to 2-2, while the Eagles slipped to 1-4 on the year.
"We came out very flat and nervous in doubles," Head Coach Kevin Fulton said. "But we made some adjustments, and I felt like we did compete hard in singles."
MSU only dressed five players for the match, giving the hosts default wins at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles. Louisville then claimed both doubles matches in sweep fashion, 6-0. At No. 1, Rebecca Shine and Julia Fellerhoff bested sophomore Briar Preston and freshman Andrea Leblanc. On the second court, freshman Hayley Wild and sophomore Sandrine Beaule fell to Manuela Valasquez and Elle Stokes.
The 'Cards won all five singles contests in straight sets. At No. 4, Beaule won the most games before taking a 6-5, 6-3 setback to Cassie Pough. At No. 1, Preston lost 6-3, 6-3 to Shine. Leblanc succumbed 6-4, 6-0 to Valasquez at No.2. On court three, Becky Bodine swept sophomore Dominique-Chante Mclean 6-0, 6-0. Wild fell in a 6-2, 6-1 contest to Olivia Boesing on court five.
