SEMO Rallies to Top Women's Tennis, 4-3

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. --
The Morehead State women's tennis team saw a 3-0 lead evaporate Saturday in a 4-3 Ohio Valley Conference setback at Southeast Missouri.

The Redhawks stayed unblemished in league play at 4-0 and improved to 9-5 overall. The Eagles slipped to 2-1 in the OVC and 5-9 overall.

MSU secured the doubles point and then won at Nos. 1 and 3 singles to jump ahead 3-0. But the Redhawks recorded three of their four singles wins in three sets for the victory.

In doubles, sophomore Briar Preston and junior Alex Tachovsky topped Valeriia Kashina and Ekaterina Donetckova, 8-5, on court one. Freshmen Hayley Wild and Andrea LeBlanc sealed the first point with an 8-5 triumph at No. 3.

Preston improved her singles mark to 16-4 this season when she cruised past Kashina 6-1, 6-0 on court one. Sophomore Dominique-Chante Mclean won against Donetckova 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3.

Valerie Nogovitcina got past LeBlanc 1-6, 7-6, 6-3 at No. 2, and Heather Robinson outlasted Tachovsky 7-6, 6-7, 6-4 at No. 4. Melissa Martin secured a 7-6, 2-6, 6-4 win versus Wild on the last court, and Annisa Warasanti bested sophomore Sandrine Beaule 7-5, 6-3 at No. 5.

Morehead State continues an OVC road trip with a match at UT Martin Sunday. First serve is set for 1:30 p.m. ET.
