Women's Tennis Claims Close Battle at Belmont

NASHVILLE, Tenn. --
The Morehead State women's tennis team won for the fourth time in five matches Saturday as the Eagles rallied to defeat Blmont 4-3 at Centennial Sportsplex.

MSU moved to 4-1 in the Ohio Valley Conference and 7-9 overall. Belmont slipped to 1-4 in the conference and 3-7 overall. The teams played singles first, and the Eagles trailed 3-2 before tying it up and then winning two doubles matches, 8-1.

In singles, sophomore Briar Preston won for the sixth consecutive time in straight sets, blanking Sandra Kancheva 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1. In her last three singles matchups, Preston has lost only two games. She is now 5-0 in the OVC and 11-4 overall in the spring.

Junior Alex Tachovsky claimed a 6-2, 6-0 decision versus Nikki Maciel on court four. Freshman Hayley Wild improved to 4-1 in league matches with a 7-5, 6-1 triumph against Lauren Fiepke at No. 6.

MSU sealed the win with doubles wins at Nos. 1 and 3. On court one, Preston and Tachovsky raced past Kancheva and Kendall Warren 8-1. At No. 3, Wild and freshman Andrea LeBlanc ousted Abbie Mather and Maddie Gilley 8-1.

Morehead State stayed in Nashville Saturday night and will face league foe Tennessee State at 11 a.m. ET Sunday.
