Women's Tennis Completes Best OVC Record in Fulton Era

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. –
The Morehead State women's tennis team completed its best Ohio Valley Conference season under Head Coach Kevin Fulton Saturday when the Eagles concluded the regular season with a 5-2 victory at Jacksonville State.
 
Morehead State, which was just 2-8 in the league last season, finished 8-2 this year and improved to 11-10 overall. JSU fell to 9-14 overall and 5-5 in the conference. Fulton has led the Eagles since 2006.
 
In singles, sophomore Briar Preston completed a perfect run through the league (10-0) with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Raisa Guasti in the top spot in the lineup. Preston finished 16-4 in singles in the regular season, winning her final 11 matches.
 
At No. 2, freshman Andrea LeBlanc took care of Olivia Nyugen 6-2, 6-4. LeBlanc was 7-3 in league singles tilts. Junior Alex Tachovsky, who became eligible midway through the spring after transferring from Louisville, won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4 and was 6-3 in the league in singles.
 
At No. 6, freshman Hayley Wild outlasted Zoe Bizinos 6-2, 4-6, 6-3. Wild was 7-3 in OVC matches her first collegiate campaign.
 
In doubles, Preston and Tachovsky rolled past Guasti and Claudia Marsala 8-3 at No. 1. The MSU pair fashioned an 8-2 regular-season mark. At No. 3, LeBlanc and Wild recorded an 8-1 triumph. That duo finished 8-1.
 
Morehead State will learn its seeding and first opponent for the OVC Tournament on Sunday. The event will be held at the Larry Heflin Tennis Center in Paducah, Ky., starting Thursday.
