MOREHEAD, Ky. – The Morehead State women's tennis team pulled out a 4-3 triumph over undefeated Murray State Sunday at the Sadler Courts.
The Eagles improve to 10-10 overall and 7-2 in Ohio Valley Conference action. The Racers fell to 7-1 in league play and 12-5 overall.
Morehead State was awarded the doubles point after battling to capture close wins on the first and third draws. Sophomore Briar Preston and junior Alex Tachovsky clinched an 8-7 (7-1) decision on court one over Eleonore Tchakarova and Verginie Tchakarova. At No. 3 freshmen pair Hayley Wild and Andrea LeBlanc defeated Carla Suga and Megan Blue 8-6.
In singles action, both teams secured three wins each. MSU came out victorious on courts one, two and six.
On the first court, Preston improved to 9-0 this season in OVC singles action by defeating Eskauriatza 6-3, 2-6, 6-2. LeBlanc upped her conference record to 6-3 as she cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win on the second court against Suga. Wild also improved her OVC mark to 6-2 after knocking off Patton 6-3, 6-4.
Morehead State will finish up regular season play on Saturday as it travels to Jacksonville State. The Eagles are currently in third place in the league.
