Women's Tennis Knocks Off Eastern Illinois, 4-3

MOREHEAD, Ky. --
The Morehead State women's tennis team climbed one rung on the Ohio Valley Conference ladder Friday, defeating Eastern Illinois 4-3 at Darling Courts.

The Eagles improved to 9-9 overall and 7-2 in the Ohio Valley Conference in knocking off a Panther team that had won 10 of its last 11 matches. EIU is now 12-5 overall and tied with MSU at 7-2 in the league.

"Our team played in some very tough conditions today," Head Coach Kevin Fulton said. "I am proud of all of them. We fought hard, and this was a crucial win for us."

The Eagles grabbed a 1-0 advantage with doubles wins on courts one and two. At No. 1, sophomores Andrea Leblanc and Hayley Wild edged Grace Summers and Sephora Boulbahaiem, 8-6. On court two, junior Ayaka Terashi and senior Dominique-Chante Mclean raced past Ali Foster and Hannah Kimbrough, 8-3.

Leblanc, Wild and freshman Aleksandra Savic claimed singles victories. At No. 5, Savic topped Kamile Stadalnikaite, 6-0, 6-2. On court five, Wild doubled up Kimbrough, 6-3, 6-3. Leblanc clinched the match when she defeated Foster 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) on court one.

Wild is now 8-1 in conference singles matches this season and 15-3 in her two-year career. Leblanc upped her singles mark in OVC tilts to 7-2.

The Eagles close the regular season with a 3 p.m. ET match at SIU Edwardsville Saturday. The OVC Tournament is set for April 17-19 at the Centennial SportsPlex in Nashville, Tenn.
