MOREHEAD, Ky. – For the third time in her collegiate career and first time this season, senior
MacKenzie Neal has been named Ohio Valley Conference women's golfer of the week, the league announced Wednesday.
Neal led the Eagles at the Golfweek Conference Challenge, finishing tied for 15th in a crowded field of 104 participants, firing rounds of 72-68-73—213.
As the rounds went on, Neal got stronger, shooting a cumulative six under par on the back nine over the course of three rounds.
The Richmond, Ky. native also led the team in nearly every statistical category including pars, birdies, and scoring average on par 3s and 4s.
Her second round 68 was the lowest of her career and the lowest round shot by an Eagle since 2016 when Anna Magnusson fired a 67 at the same event six years ago.
Neal and the Eagles return to the links in two weeks at the Illinois-Chicago Invitational. The two-day tournament tees off Sept. 25 at the Briar Ridge Golf Club.
