NOTABLES
  • Morehead State mounted a big comeback last Thursday at Ohio. Down 19 at the half, the Eagles shot 11-16 (69%) from the floor including 3-6 (50%) from three-point range.  MSU limited their turnovers to just one in the quarter and mounted a 15-0 run that got them to within two points of the Bobcats.
  • MSU shot 10-42 (24%) from three-point range last week at Ohio. Those 42 three-pointers are the most in program history against a Division I opponent. The school record was set on December 18, 2013, when the Eagles set school records for treys made (19) and attempted (44) against Berea College.
  • Morehead State struggled from the free throw line at Ohio, hitting only nine of their 15 attempts. Through the first three games of the season, the Eagles are shooting 64% from the free throw line.
  • It is very nearly an entirely new team for Morehead State this season. The only two individuals returning from last year's team are Kate Dike and athletic trainer Broderick Moore.
  • Morehead State surely has the youngest staff in Division I, if not in all of college basketball. The average age of the coaching staff is 26.8 years.
  • Morehead State is again something of a United Nations with eight countries represented: the United States (Forbes, McNece), Ukraine (Dike), Estonia (Sepp), Italy (Toffali), Sweden (Ekstrom, Enander, Ersdala), Montenegro (Marinkovic), Spain (Remolar, Pavesio) and England (Pearson).
  • Marie Sepp and Laura Toffali followed head coach Ashton Feldhaus to Morehead State from Missouri Western, where they posted a 20-10 record last season, earning a berth in the NCAA Division II tournament.
  • Sepp was named Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week after the first week of the season. She opened the season with 22 at Kentucky and scored 12 in 16 minutes of play at Bellarmine while battling early foul trouble.
  • Anja Ekstrom had somewhat of a break-out game at Ohio last Thursday. After scoring just two points in the first two games, the Swede posted 12 points on 4-11 shooting from three-point range.
  • Violet McNece has had a nice start to her Morehead State career. She opened the season tying her career high with 15 points at Kentucky and followed that up with 13 at Bellarmine. She just missed double figures with eight points last week at Ohio.
