Morehead, Ky. -- Morehead State freshman
Seamus Bogan placed fifth in the individual competition as the MSU men's golf team placed fifth in a field of 16 teams at the ECU Intercollegiate in Greenville, N.C, that wrapped up Tuesday.
Bogan, playing as an individual in the tournament, began the final round tied for 11
th place after rounds of 74-72 (+2). Starting at hole 16, he went his first four holes at even par for the round, then beginning at the par-5, 509-yard second hole, the freshman Clover, S.C., ran off three straight birdies. He held on for a one-under par 71Â and a 217 total (+1) over the 54 holes, and a share of fifth place, and a spot on the all-tournament team.
"Seamus played awesome today," said Morehead State head coach
Matthew Martin. "He really played well the last two rounds. I expect he will be able to take a lot of confidence going forward with the way he played in this event."
Junior
Logan McCormick led the Eagles in scoring for the team competition, firing rounds of 75-70-77 for a 222 total (+6), and a tie for 19
th.
Sophomore
Remy Stalcup shot 73-76-77 for a 226 total (+10) and 30
th position.
Senior
Nolan Piazza bounced back with an even-par 72 in the final round after shooting 78-79 the first two rounds. His 229 total (+13) placed in a tied for 36
th.
Gavin Augenstein posted an 81 after a pair of 75's over the first two rounds for a +15 total of 231.
Junior
Logan Liles posted rounds of 73-80-81 for a 234 total (+18), T-61.
"The team once again showed flashes of strong golf," said Martin. "We will keep working to improve in each event we play."
Central Florida won the team competition with a three-round total of 872 strokes.
The Eagles will take a week off and return to play in the Memphis Invitational March 31-April 1 at the Colonial Country Club in Memphis, Tenn.
