MOREHEAD, Ky. --
It all came down to a final match on court one, but Morehead State beach volleyball prevailed, and the Eagles put the finishing touches on two victories Friday at OVC weekend No. 1 at UT Martin. The Eagles opened the day with a 5-0 shutout over Eastern Illinois and then topped the host Skyhawks 3-2 on their home sand late in the evening.

The Eagles start OVC action 2-0 and are now 8-6 overall.

The win over UTM was the first over the Skyhawks since 2021.

The Eagles fell at No. 1 to fall behind 1-0, but No. 5 pair Courtney Fitzgerald and Amelia Nott rallied to win 11-21, 21-13, 15-8. UTM claimed court three for a 2-1 lead to set the stage for the late drama. On court two, Eagle pair Sydney Wyman and Sarah Heath finished off a straight-set, 21-7, 21-18 win to tie the overall match 2-2.

On court one, Irene Wogenstahl and Bella Marita dropped their first set 25-23 but responded to win 21-18 in set two. In the third frame, they fell behind 4-1 early and eventually caught up as they and UTM pair Jenna Vallee and Dylan Mott jockeyed all the way into extra points. The Eagle duo finally fended off a furious attempt by the home duo as they won 18-16.

Against Eastern Illinois, the Eagles' No. 2 and No. 5 pairs both won in three sets, including another two-set rally by Fitzgerald and Nott on court five. They won 19-21, 21-19, 15-13. Heath and Wyman opened with a 21-18 win before faltering 21-12, but they won the finale 15-13.

At No. 1, Wogenstahl and Marita took care of Laura Paniagua and Kaitlyn Flynn 21-15, 21-17. On court three, Peighton Isley and M.E. Hargan also won in straight sets. Brenna Bommer and Shea Hefner joined suit for a straight set victory at No. 4.

Morehead State finishes off the OVC weekend Saturday versus Lindenwood at 11 a.m. and Chattanooga at 3 p.m. ET.
