NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Morehead State women’s basketball team lost 91-28 at 12th-ranked Notre Dame Monday night. The Eagles fell to 0-2 after playing their second ranked team in as many games.
The 28 points equaled the school record for fewest points in a game. Notre Dame also forced 40 Eagle turnovers in the contest and turned them into 35 points. The Irish outscored the Eagles 54-6 in the paint.
The Irish held MSU to a school-record low seven points in the opening half, and that also equaled ND’s record for fewest points allowed in a half. Despite the loss, the Eagles did score 21 in the second half and had 22 defensive rebounds for the game.
Chynna Bozeman led MSU with 12 points, hitting a pair of three-pointers. Ashar Harris had six rebounds.
Notre Dame was led by Kayla McBride with 14 points. Three others had double figures. The Irish had 26 steals.
In the first half, Notre Dame forced 23 Eagle turnovers and turned that into 18 of their 40 points. MSU managed to hit only two field goals out of 18 tries – an uncontested layup from Hillman and a three-pointer by Bozeman. The Eagles went the first nine minutes without a made field goal and ended the half without a field goal for the final eight minutes.
The Eagles return home this week to host the Comfort Inn and Suites Classic. The three-day tournament begins Friday at Johnson Arena with two games, including the Eagles’ contest against Southland Conference opponent Central Arkansas.
