Women's Tennis Downed 6-1 By Florida Gulf Coast University

FORT MEYERS, Fla. – The Morehead State women’s tennis team was defeated by Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Meyers, Fla., Monday 6-1 at the FGCU Tennis Courts. With the loss, the Eagles dropped to 2-9 on the season.

The Eagles couldn’t keep up with FGCU in doubles action, falling behind 1-0 early in the match. At number one Madeleinne Antero and Lauren Delaney fell 8-3 and at number two Catherine Butts and Alexandra Rydberg lost 8-2. The duo of Alix Young and Kayla Tuscany were beat 8-0.

In singles action, the Eagles didn’t fair much better, only picking up one victory. The lone victory was at the two spot where Young bested Eva Sambrano in straight sets 6-2, 6-1. Rydberg at number one was downed 6-2, 6-1 and in the third spot Antero came up short against Farah Leclerq 7-6, (7-3), 7-5. Tuscany couldn’t overcome Iris Rendon losing 6-2, 6-0 and in the fifth spot Delaney was defeated 6-2, 6-2. Rounding out the action for the Eagles was Brooke Helms was beat by Morgan Betchel 6-1, 6-2.

The Eagles will be in action again Tuesday March 16 in Orlando, Fla., against Fairleigh Dickinson University at 12:30 p.m.
