Women's Netters Fall 4-3 In Close Battle To Fairleigh Dickinson

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Morehead State women’s tennis team battled tough against Fairleigh Dickinson University, but came up just short and dropped a 4-3 decision on Tuesday afternoon in Orlando, Fla.  The Eagles and Knights each won three singles matches, but the Knights notched the victory when they secured one point for winning two of the three doubles matches. The Eagles are now 2-10 on the season.

In doubles action, at number one Lauren Delaney and Madeleinne Antero were bested 8-5 and in the two spot and Kayla Tuscany and Brooke Helms were downed 8-3 by the Knights Julia Prantl and Egzona Morina. The Eagles pair of Alexandra Rydberg and Alix Young picked up a victory in the three spot 8-3.

In singles play the Eagles picked up victories at number’s four, five, and six. At number four Antero defeated Morina 5-7, 6-4, 7-5 and at number five Helms won over Ksenia Chernyshova 6-1, 6-2. In the sixth spot Delaney gathered at win in straight sets 6-2, 6-3. At number one Young was defeated by Julija Korshunova in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. In the number two spot Rydberg was defeated 6-2, 6-3 and at number three Tuscany was just short of Prantl 5-7, 7-5, 6-2.

The Eagles return to play March 17 in Orlando, Fla., against Hartford University at 12:30 p.m.
