India's Shilpa Naruka Inks With Women's Tennis Team

MOREHEAD, Ky. – Shilpa Naruka, one of the highest ranked players in India, has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Morehead State women’s tennis team.

“I am very pleased that Shilpa will be joining our team. She is a very talented player with a winning attitude. She comes from a hard-working family, and she herself has a great work ethic. Shilpa plays with a lot of energy and enthusiasm, and she is an extremely intelligent student. We look forward to her bringing that mentality to our program,” said coach Kevin Fulton.

Naruka, a native of Chandigarh, India, has won gold medals at the Inter School Tournament in 2010 and the Haryana Olympics in 2009. She advanced to the doubles semifinals at the Under-18 Pakastan ITF Junior event in 2008 as well as posting high marks at the ITF Junior events in Jordan and Sri Lanka.

She was ranked in the top 50 in the ITF national rankings for Under-16.

Naruka joins Las Vegas native Alexis Garrett, who signed an NLI earlier this spring, as new members of the MSU women’s tennis team.

“Adding Shilpa and Alexis will really be a boost for our team. Both of these players will challenge for top spots in the lineup immediately and will certainly help our team push even more for an OVC championship,” said Fulton.
