Duquesne Tops Eagle Women's Tennis, 5-2

PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- Juniors Brooke Helms and Victoria Cran each won singles matches Sunday at Duquesne, but the Eagles dropped all three doubles contests and the other four singles matches as they fell 5-2 to the Dukes to conclude a three-day,  three-match road trip.

"I make no excuses, Dusquene played well," said MSU Head Coach Kevin Fulton. "I told the girls that to win the conference tourney you may have to play three days in a row. Victoria and Brooke played so well this weekend and we can take a lot from this and continue to get better."

The Eagles fell to 2-3 overall, while Duquesne moved to 1-1.

Helms topped Chandler Consonery 6-3, 6-4 at number five, while Cran bested Judy Li  on court three in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0.

MSU lost 8-1 at one doubles, 8-6 at two doubles and 8-4 on court three during doubles. The Dukes won the other four singles matches in straight sets.

The Eagles continue the non-conference portion of their 2012 schedule on Saturday at nationally-ranked Marshall at 1 p.m. ET.
